Wiki

RKT is a form of Reggaetón that emerged in the early 2010s. It is characterized by minimalistic, rhythm-centric production heavily influenced by Cumbia villera and other Cumbia argentina styles. RKT mixes Cumbia triplets into reggaetón's typical dembow, usually featuring prominent basslines as well. RKT was pioneered by DJs from the Conurbano region of Buenos Aires, and it was specifically named after the Rescate Bailable, as a pun on the word "rescata", as many of its DJs were among the genre's pioneers. DJs like DJ Pirata, DJ Cris, Maxi Gen, Toty Stylee, and DJ Kbz@, were some of the first major DJs in the genre, with later artists like Paco Mix and DJ Pity later helping to develop it too. Initially producers of the genre would filter basses from Cumbia colombiana songs and use them directly for RKT instrumentals.

Though RKT still focuses to a large extent on remixing existing reggaetón vocals (especially reggaetón hits and classic reggaeton tracks) onto RKT rhythms, it would also see success through Argentine MCs like L-Gante who would become popular with original RKT tracks. The growing popularity of RKT would further result in new artists incorporating the trending sounds of Argentine Trap and other Hip Hop genres.
