Paul Westerberg's gut wrenching song of simple elegance. His whisky and razor blade vocals were never better. The 12 string guitar is usually reserved for jangly happy songs is used here as a beautiful expression of unrecoverable torment. The sweet slide guitar enters and exits like a ghost as the song builds. It is remarkable that someone in his early 20s could produce such a remarkable expression of regret and emptiness, emotions that should manifest at the end of life, not at the beginning.
