I recently discovered his quintet with Coltrane and Donald Byrd - extremely underrated music that ranks with Miles and Trane's Prestige releases. They were together for only a short time, but the session that produced High Pressure, Soul Junction and All Mornin' Long is wonderfully inspired. All three albums are overlooked classics.

Red deserves more appreciation around here. His Prestige records with Paul Chambers and Art Taylor are magical, as is his work with Miles and Coltrane. His style is irresistibly classy and cool.

anybody ever notice that he quotes miles's entire solo from "now's the time" with charlie parker on "straight, no chaser" on milestones?

Swingin' at the Savoy is perhaps the most interesting song to me. I like his swing style, and he's got some hip piano solos in this piece. Great song.

Which are the best three Red Garland CDs? Either CDs under his name, or stellar performances under someone else's name?
