Well, damn. I've been trying to see them for the first time since I started listening to them around 2005, I even bought the tickets but as far as I can remember, they canceled their last tour, so... nothing was re-scheduled and they didn't give a reason why, probably lack of support? As much as I love them, they're not well supported in the US and I've heard lately touring in the US has become really hard to finance.

Same here! They did reschedule at least some shows, but the one I was planning to go to was a different further away venue and date wasn't possible. And this too I only saw by chance like a day or two before the show, they didn't even send some notice to those who had bought the previous tickets.

At Saarihelvetti? Yea they were even better than I thought! I didn't recognize all the songs because I haven't listened to that many of their albums thoroughly but that didn't matter, it was great

Yeah I saw them at Saarihelvetti! The setlist was nearly perfect, a little bit of everything from their discography. The transition of 'In And Above Men' and 'From Lowering Skies' was so smooth live and 'Finisterra' gave a taste of their heavier side! Wish they would've played something from 1755 though.

they may not make something as strange and great as The Butterfly Effect again, still I don't think the "experimental" spirit is totally dead. Just looking at their last three albums, they all sound/feel different from one another, and they always fully commit to their concept. Sure, the lyrics are pretty much stuck in the apocalypse from Memorial on, but for me Extinct/1755/Hermitage all have their own different flavor of this theme and explore into new territories. When you compare to groups like Katatonia that keep treading over the same ground again and again lately (disclaimer: I do like their recent albums), Moonspell continues to be very creative and unusual

Новый альбом на попсовом лейбле разве что для ньюфагов. Нет тут ни былинной гототы противоядия, ни психоделии Sin, а есть модерновый прог рок в стиле самых поздних Opeth. Хорошо хоть не рычат уже.

Hats down to Moonspell for making once again a different album, quite different compared to the recent albums from the past 10-15 years. I found (apparently not only me) lots of progressive elements in the album itself and that is a very well performed music by the guys instrument-wise. Lyrics are top notch as well. The title track stands out as one of the best outputs for me here. I like the new vocal approaches by Fernando as well, although, I admit, I sometimes miss the harsh vocals - which are present here, but not as much as they used to be. Anyways, the albums is pretty nice and also a grower with each listen. Cheers to Moonspell.

Old fan here. Big fan of Wolfheart, Irreligious, Sin/Pecado and The Butterfly Effect. Sin/Pecado is my favorite Moonspell album. The Antidote was the last Moonspell album that I really really liked. Loving the new one. Multiple repeated listens already. I hear some influences from Anathema (Eternity plus some of the post-2010 stuff) and bits and pieces of Tiamat (some Wildhoney-ish guitar solo here and there), but then again, all of them (including Moonspell) were always influenced by Pink Floyd. Hermitage shows some kind of... Light Side Of The Moonspell!

Hermitage is definitely better than 1755 or Extinct. It will take a couple more spins but I already enjoy this as much as its a lot more stripped down than either, and unlike 1755 due to the language barrier its a lot more memorable to me. Great album from one of my all time favorite metal bands

Once again Moonspell delivered a complete different approach to a new album. This time I'm even more surprised because I don't remember them being this almost atmospheric prog showcased on Hermitage, although this is clearly yet another gothic metal masterpiece from them. Much better than 1755. Can't wait to see them back live.

I think they've listened to a fair share of Neurosis prior to writing this album.

Actually, I hear a lot of "Sin / Pecado" here. It's a great song. Looking forward for the album.

Didn't get the Sin/Pecado vibe, it reminded me more of Extinct. I think this will be a great album, didn't like 1755 that much

Moonspell had the courage to put out an LP in their mother language and dedicate it to a historical event of their nation's history, which I think is worthy of praise. I don't know if the label backed their decision enough because a lot of people didn't hear about the release or were thinking this is a compilation of some sorts.

At first I got excited because it is my mother language too, but musically the album sounds very weak to me. Bits and bits of Portuguese and historic events have always been part of their work, so I expected more. But I think overall people really liked that album, at least that's what I recall from that period of time

Wish they release more stuff like The Butterfly Effect. That is true unique devilish metal, which I have never heard from anyone else.

Yeah, the only thing similar to that I can think about is Host by Paradise Lost, and maybe Crematory's slower and stripped down songs

Indeed. I love that album. But I can't say it reminds of the Moonspell electro era. But I'm sure there are lots of bands making a similar sound, I'm just out of the loop

I recently came to realize that their stuff between "Sin / Pecado" and "The Antidote" inclusively received mixed reactions from their fan-base and they got back the respect from the metal community since "Memorial". I think all these four albums are worth a listen and unique in their own way.

I think that was their goal. To provoke their fanbase. Most influential bands around that time, in the same "style", shifted dramatically their sound (Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Anathema, The Gathering, Tiamat, Theatre of Tragedy, Type O got heavier and more serious). Late 90s and earlier 2000s seemed to be the perfect time to experiment. But every new Moonspell album is different from the previous one, more so after Memorial. Night Eternal is almost a melodic black metal album, Alpha Noir is almost thrash metal, Omega White is a gothic rock opus, Extinct brought back the electronic experimentation and their gothic metal, 1755 is different from all those four albums.
