I don't know what it is about this album's sound but it's just really unusual, and not in a bad way

They had lived a good amount of time in the underground, and decided to try something new and go big. While it was hated at the time, in hindsight it is most definitely a super solid album. Some of their best material litters this thing.

This should suck way worse than it does. It's cheesy, chorus-driven, very cliché and totally one of my dirty pleasure records. Love it.

21 years later, this album stands as a timeless classic. Not only one of the best of the genre, but greatest album of all time of any music. Needless to say, the entire Jawbreaker (and Jets To Brazil) discographies are excellent.

I love Jawbreaker but I hate this damn album. Pissed me right the fuck off when it came out. But I love Bad Scene, Everyone's Fault anyway.

Anyways, I like Dear You but it certainly has its weak points. My favorite Jawbreaker albums go something like this: 1) 24 Hour Revenge Therapy 2) Bivouac 3) Dear You 4) Unfun. All of their albums mean a lot to me and I listen to them frequently. They're one of my favorite bands and albums like 24 Hour Revenge Therapy and Bivouac are the soundtracks to my life. Dear You, while a very solid album, just isn't on the same level. Though songs like Chemistry and Accident Prone are among their best material.

Pitchfork is a site I really do like but I feel as if they made a MAJOR attitude improvement within the last six or seven years. Pitchfork post-2009 is a GREAT place for music. Their appallingly written review of Dear You is an example of why a lot of people take issue with Pitchfork's old way of pretentious 'too-cool' posturing. Like I said, Pitchfork is an excellent reference today but it clearly wasn't always that way and Pitchfork haven't been able to convince a lot of people to return to their site on account of insulting reviews like Dear You, Relationship Of Command (original review), Fevers and Mirrors, Robbers and Cowards, Figure 8, etc.

I think it's really hard to compare this album to their others - to me the 'eras' often seem like they're from totally different bands. but I love this album and I love the others too.

punk news loved the album, critically, so.... why do people check Pitchfork again?

This is a tirade. A shame-filled, unflattering open-heart address to a generation of jaded slackers. Brilliant stuff for a pop punk record. Pitchfork doesn't know what the hell it's talking about.

I dunno about this one. It just kinda sounds like Husker Du did by the end of their career. Only not as good.
