Any musician's association with hardcore can only be described as a "decline". Since it is only from the gutter where we can channel the stars. Nice troll btw

avantish, did you read the news about Patton in the last six months or so? The pandemic got the better of him and he succumbed to alcoholism and took an extended break to get help. That's why they cancelled a bunch of FNM dates, etc. Maybe it's got something to do with his unexpected return to metal (or maybe not), but I for one really enjoy it (Mr. B and this). However, I can actually see how it's prolly a phase for Patton that will end sooner rather than later, before cutting his hair and putting on the suits again.

He'll always have the best pipes around. When and if he does more Peeping Tom, Mondo Cane or stuff like Zorn's 60th - I'll be first to laud it. Myself, I wanna see him do more collabs with Justin Pearson. The second best pipes around.

Second album is being tracked. Too much to expect some new FNM and Bungle in 2020? And while we're at it, new Retox? You never know.

I'd love if Ipecac or Three One G repeated/did something like the Geek Tour of 2003 (Tomahawk, Fantômas, Melvins).

Thank you for your response, which in turn confirmed what I already believed to be true about a RHCP fan x

Well shit, I can't wait for their show in Amsterdam then. I'm both a Patton and an energetic punk/hardcore show fan.

Well, if they're trying to be true to the music they're attempting to recreate, the album shouldn't really sound conventionally great. The problem I have with it is that Mike Patton is too self-conscious to just go out and make a Hardcore or Crossover record. He always has to have his keyboards and samples and various other toys, so instead of this being the fun throwback to the type of music the band and presumably many of us in the intended audience grew up with that the guys say they were aiming for, it ends up being like a weird marriage of Hardcore and Crossover Thrash with typical Patton "Experimental" Rock/Metal/whatever you want to heading you want to put most of the stuff he's done of late under. At some point he became unsatisfied with "just" being a singer and every project with which he's involved has to have the aforementioned accessories, whether they fit the project or not.

Sorry, don't know why I didn't get the notification that you'd replied to this. Yes, there's way too much in the way of his histrionics and gimmicks for this to be a throwback to Crossover/Thrashcore/Hardcore Punk. It's not a terrible album or anything, but it's basically not weird enough to appeal to fans of most of Patton's stuff and it's not straightforward enough to work as an homage to the stuff from the styles I just mentioned. Not to mention as is too often the case with Patton, the vocals are about a million times louder than everything else on here.

I feel you. I love both Patton and hardcore though so I’m into it, but then again I love when Patton brings his bullshit haha.

After their first released songs I knew that this isn't going to be a genre-defining, ground-breaking record, but a solid position in this year's top lists. I'm not really a fan of their sound, mostly guitar's sound, but musically it's a good and enjoyable material. So good to hear Mike Patton's amazing vocal once again in a hardcore-ish project.

Господи, зачем они так даунгрэйднули звук? Слушать тяжко такой сухой шум. Очень странно.
