“Yours” is the fifth single off of Conan Gray’s sophomore album "Superache".
The song’s discovery came after Gray stated a series of song titles alongside previously released tracks like “People Watching,” and a teased song on his social media “Best Friend,” on his tour’s on-screen visual. Additionally, he dropped a few hints about the song’s release after its title appeared in the “Memories” music video, where Conan’s ex delivered a box of Conan’s things at his front door with “yours” written in bold marker, near the end of the video.
On May 12, 2022, Conan posted a photo of a typewriter on Instagram with the words “I’m not yours.” The numers “5,” “9,” and the letter “L” were highlighted red, which was a hint at the song’s release date of May 19th. Conan officially confirmed the release of “Yours” on May 16, 2022, to be released three days later.
"Dan and I were sitting at the piano, and he started playing the melody. It got stuck in my head. I started singing, ‘Somebody you call when you are alone…’ At that point in my life, I was dealing with that annoying, lingering love for someone that I very much felt was the most important person in my life. They didn’t have the same feelings towards me. I wanted the chorus to be really simple and repeat itself, like, ‘Well, I’m not yours, and I want more, but that stuff’s not going to happen.’ I wanted it to be very kind of plain."
