“Crooked Young” mainly talks about Oliver Sykes' ketamine rehabilitation.
In a track-by-track interview with MetalFuckingRocks, vocalist Oli Sykes explained:
“Jordan really wanted to do something like “It Never Ends” , and we thought that was one of the songs that worked best on the last album, including that addition of an orchestra. We thought we could carry that on, so we wanted to keep that vibe. It’s still one of the heaviest tracks on the record, and it’s got a great chorus. I’m really excited to play that one live.“
In another interview, bassist Matt Kean explained:
“This song came about after we all went to go see a film—I forget which film it was, but it was a super epic film it had like a huge string section in it—and we thought we need to write a song that uses cinematic strings section and is super epic sounding. So then Jordan went home that night and came back in the morning with this huge, middle string section, so we were like “Let’s use this!” and then we wrote the song around that section.“
