Although people say this is his return to secular songwriting, I find religious themes pop up quite often on this album. In fact, it's very similar to Shot of Love in both lyrics and music. However, this album has a bit more of a political scope. I really love Union Sundown and Neighborhood Bully.

Very good album, indeed. Very compelling lyrically, with much more depth than it may appear at first glance, as TheUselessGolem alluded to.

A record of songs tinged by mysteries and mystical shadows. Even the more straightforward ones have a compelling whiff of the mad prophet about them; imperfect but nonetheless incomparable atmosphere here.

GREAT record, this Infidels thing. And while no, it's not perfect, I've actually come to believe Bob was right to leave off Blind Willie McTell and Foot of Pride. He called the former unfinished and the latter overwritten, which is exactly how I feel (wonderful as both are). Now, Death is Not the End, on the other hand... I'da welcomed that shard of dismal beauty here. But it'd be a bitch to sequence. The whole record must've been.

oh sing it bob. the fact that i'm just getting into dire straits and knopfler is on this album is giving it a whole new lease of life. i'd love to know who's playing each guitar part though.

The lyricism is mostly good, but I can't look past at how cheesy his delivery and the music sounds...

"jokerman", "sweetheart like you", "I and I", "Don't fall Apart on me Tonight" and "License to Kill" are all legitimately great songs. that's more than half the album right there. "Union Sundown" and "Man of Peace" are both very solid good songs. I don't really like "Neighborhood Bully" very much, so that's one bad song. That makes for a great album in my opinion.

I like it too but wouldn't call this a solid album. It's an OK Dylan album with a weak side b. Honestly, if this had been another artist and you weren't a Dylan fan, I doubt most of you would give it the following plays that would make it grow on you.

Yuck? "Infidels" is Dylan's best album of the 80s, not even "Oh Mercy" can keep up with it.
