After more than a decade, Tommy Walter is back ... and he continues to deliver the goods. The music on The Haunted House is plangent, thoughtful, and whimsical, exactly what we've come to expect from his peerless songcraft. His journey away from the alt-rock of Humanistic continues, with these songs feeling right at home as B-sides to Somnambulist. But at this point, I mainline on anything he releases because it makes me happy. Hope we don't have to wait another 11 years for his next opus.

The [album artist=Abandoned Pools]Humanistic[/album] album was so hauntingly beautiful that it always made me feel like I was falling to earth without a parachute while listening to it. I think most of the stuff [artist]Abandoned Pools[/artist] has done since that album is very average and nothing to get excited about.

I can honestly say there is no band that is more nostalgic to me than Abandoned Pools. Every time I listen to them I have so many memories of my life resurface. Even though the first albums are quite old now and have a lot of time attached to them, the new stuff I have memories for now as well. The music of AP will live with me forever.

What has always been strange about Abandoned Pools is that the music has always felt nostalgic, even during the first listen. I didn't listen to their second album until 2013, but it put me in a younger headspace. When I spun Sublime Currency for the first time in 2015, it suddenly felt like 2002 again ... I'm not sure if it's Tommy's voice, or the music's uncanny ability to be both intimate and distant, but I can't say the same about any other band.

Absolutely right. Couldn't have put it better. I can still remember hearing songs like Blood and Fluorescein for the first time and feeling that way. I can't think of anyone that really emulates the sound of Tommy's voice. I have always described their sound to my friends as "Apocalyptic Suburbia". :P

Sublime Currency is decent, still a bunch of pop-punk bullcrap though. Except for Autopilot, that one is great.
