Автограф (Autograph) was a progressive rock band from USSR. The band was founded in 1979 by Alexander Sitkovetsky who made emphasis on professional musicanship. After some personnel switches Autograph came to its classic and most acclaimed line-up: Arthur Bercut (vocals), Alexander Sitkovetsky (guitars), Leonid Gootkin (bass), Leonid Makarevich (keyboards) and Victor Mikhalin (drums). The music itself sounds like a cross between Pink Floyd (epic soundscapes, deep atmosphere), Yes (technical keyboard and bass lines, powerful soaring vocals) and Marillion (more commercial songs on the second album). The band had troubles dealing with the soviet recording company Melodia so they've only managed to release two albums (Autograph and Stone Land), while many of their songs are only available as poor quality live recordings. Nevertheless, Autograph quickly gained popularity and soon became one of the most recognizeable live acts in the state.
In Spring 1990 Autograph disbanded due to creative exhaustion.
In 2004 the band reunited for a brief tour which ended on the 23th of June, 2005 in Moscow. The show was recorded and later released as "25 Years Later: The Anniversary Concert" on CDs and DVD, finally giving justice to many long forgotten songs from the 80s.
