Coheed and Comics: Last.fm @ NYCC 2015

Last.fm speaks with Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria about 'Our Transient Life', 'The Color Before the Sun', GA1 Neverender Anniversary, Key of Z:2, and the sights and sounds of NY Comic-Con 2015.

We all have our 'geeky-guilty-pleasures.' Most of us here are obvious music-geeks but traditionally speaking, you can "geek-out" for just about anything.

For the past few years, Last.fm has been present at the infamous New York Comic-Con pursuing the passionate common-culture shared between music fans and comic fans.

Watch previous year's coverage in this YouTube playlist featuring more Coheed, IamDynamite, Super Scrobbles and more:

One of our main go-to's has always been Claudio Sanchez of Coheed and Cambria who exemplifies these aspects perfectly as Coheed itself produces concept records which then lead to graphic novel representations written and published by Claudio and his Evil Ink Comics.

This year we broke the mold a little however; Coheed made their first non-concept record The Color Before the Sun so Claudio shared some reflective thoughts on the inspiration of this records new direction, the band's longevity, the anniversary of Good Apollo: I'm Burning Star IV - From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness, Key of Z 2, the children's book he is writing and even makes some pretty solid speculation on the future of comics and specifies some of his favorites: Fantastic Four & Moon Knight.

Beyond that, we caught time with The King of Rock: Darryl McDaniels AKA DMC (of Run DMC) as well as Editor in Chief of Marvel Comics: Axel Alonso. It has become increasingly apparent that Hip-Hop has a major influence in comics and vice versa. From the 'Cultures Combined' panel we were privvy to attend, to the Marvel Hip-Hop variant covers now being published to DMC's very own hero publication Darryl Makes Comics inspired by Stan Lee's 'Marvelized' New York City.

Even further, we caught up with Billy Martin (guitarist for Good Charlotte) who's illustrating IDW TMNT and creator of Vitriol The Hunter comics now, an independent artist named Brian Ewing who's art for Weezer & Foo Fighters takes major notes from rock show posters & Pushead. Major fans Kevin Devine, Beach Slang, The Academy Is and Taking Back Sunday divulge into some of their favorites to read on the road from Batman and Daredevil to Max Max and well beyond Thunderdome. We also get words from Stephen Pitalo the 'Music Video Historian' and host/organizer of New York Superweek's 'Music Video Time Machine: ComicChameleon Edition' who weighs in on why this generation is such fans of nostalgia an music-comic hybrids.

We hope you enjoyed our little venture out of the usual musical realm, and we hope to hear about your favorite 'geeky guilty-pleasures' and see you at NYCC next year!
